Early Morning Light

Friday – After my run at the lake, I went and did Zumba for 45 minutes with my friend Scott.  I didn’t really sweat a lot, or feel it much, but it did feel good to shake my hips.  I was starving, so I met up with Kaylee and we ate some sushi.  Don’t judge the amount of sushi we ate, we were hungry girls.

Saturday, the BF and I went to the Land Runner’s 3rd week training run at 6 am.  It was at the river and the weather was BEAUTIFUL again, I think it was around 70*.  I was debating whether to run 4 or 5 miles, it really just depended on how my body felt.  I was unsure since my runs had been going PRETTY sucky lately.  I did not run with the BF because he runs anywhere from a 6:30 pace to 8:00 pace.  (I know he will probably correct me because I don’t have the right times exactly and he reads this blog.) 😉
My body felt really good and I ended up doing 5 miles with an 11:01 pace.    Still not the best or where I want to be, but progress…
The BF ran 10 miles at a 7:30 pace.  Show off.  🙂

I cooked another hearty breakfast with eggs, vegetarian sausage patties, and toast.  I filled myself to the brim and couldn’t move for awhile.  That’s healthy, right?  (I also fail at life and blogging because I keep forgetting to take pictures of any of this stuff.  It will be Nicholas’s job to remind me of this from now on.)

I went to my hometown and visited my cousin who moved from Alaska and her family.  I also got to see my niece and nephew, two of my favorites in the world.

Cora with her crazy static hair.

and Enoch with his super cute outfit.  I love those plaid shorts.

Cora loves looking at herself in the iPhone, so we turned the camera around.  She started giving herself kisses.  This is a moment before that happened.

For the past 3 days I have managed to get up at 4:45am to 5:00am and still function in life.  I didn’t even HAVE to get up.  It’s actually not too bad.

Dear Normal work schedule,
I pray you show yourself before the year ends.  I would appreciate the normal functioning of my bowels, energy, joints and state of mind.
I look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,
Brandi’s Body

Other Weekend Activities

Friday:  I decided I was going to start a gym membership at this gym down the road that has a lot of good classes I want to take.
They offer:
-Zumba
-Yoga
-Pilates
-Kickboxing
-Spinning

However, the membership person wasn’t there to help me, so I decided to head to the mall to get some workout shirts.  However, I forgot that it was Tax Free Weekend in Oklahoma.   My drawings are so lifelike.

Surprisingly there wasn’t that many people out and about.  I think it’s because the temperature was approximately 183 degrees.

Sunday, the BF and I watched the Women’s Olympic Marathon Race in London.  At 5 am.  We were devoted.  Sadly, we watched it online and the coverage sucked.  Out of 2 hours and 20 something minutes of the marathon, I feel like we only saw maybe 25 minutes of it due to the commercials and the interviews about TENNIS.  DURING the marathon.  I don’t want to hear about tennis while I’m trying to watch a marathon.

SPOILER ALERT:

USA didn’t win.  Kara Goucher and Shalane Flanagan placed 10th and 11th.  Desiree Davila started the race, but dropped due to her hip flexor injury.  My heart just broke for them.  I love this photo.

Look at those abs.  Damn.  I may even have a slight girl crush on Kara Goucher…

Next week we will be watching the Men’s marathon on my TV.  Unfortunately, I do not have cable or TIVO so we will be getting up at 5 in the morning once again to watch it.  Hopefully the coverage will be better.  If not, I will cut somebody if I don’t get enough Ryan Hall viewing time.

I’m a bad blogger because I did not take a picture of the awesome breakfast we had afterward.  I made spelt flour blueberry pancakes with a recipe I found online that I tweaked a bit.  We also had eggs and veggie sausage patties, which were pretty tasty (the BF is vegetarian).  Nap time soon followed and I had a pretty lazy, but good Sunday all around.

Lazy Weekend

I didn’t do a lot this weekend, include run.  I had plans to run with the Land Runners on Saturday morning for their first fall training run.  However, due to my LOVELY night shift schedule, I could not fall asleep until 3:30am and then I would’ve had to get up at 5 am to meet the Land Runners at 6 am.  That wasn’t happening.  Changes will be made soon, I’m hoping…. I really do.

I took some time to clean out my closet and drawers.  I tend to be a clothes hoarder.  Either I keep clothes because I think I will fit into them one day, I might where that one jacket for that one outfit I never wear, or I keep them for sentimental value.  I’m a little embarrassed to say that I found a sports bra that I bought in Junior High for basketball.  That was roughly over 10 years ago.  I’m not going to post a picture of it, because that would be REALLY embarrassing.  I had to trash it, but I can’t deny it… it was hard to do.  I don’t know why I’m like this.

I ended up with three bags of clothes I’m donating to Good Will.  I’m also ashamed to say that there were a few shirts that I had never worn. Oh well, somebody will get a good deal.Dexter had to get in the picture because he “helped” by digging through the clothes after I folded and put them in the bag.  He is also a picture whore.

I spent some time with the BF who was a sickie with a cold.  I made some hearty grilled cheese sandwiches made with genuinely good ingredients from Whole Foods.  I sadly did not take a picture.  What was I thinking?
We did a lot of couch lounging and we watched Jeff, Who Lives at Home.I love both of these actors, and the movie got better and better as it went on.

Sunday, I went to see my BFF Kaylee. Her husband Jeremy grilled out some Turkey burgers and corn on the cob, which I did not take a picture of those either.  I did get a picture of this cutie wanting to go outside with her Da-Da while he grilled.

After we ate, Kaylee and I decided to go to Orange Leaf for some fro-yo, (Frozen Yogurt).  I took a picture of my cup before I put the toppings on.  Most bloggers who post their fro-yo pictures get topping such as strawberries, kiwi, blueberries and granola.  I get chocolate, with some peanut butter, and a little more chocolate.  Super healthy, I know.

As I was getting my fro-yo, I spy a familiar face in the corner of the room.  Jacob from Twilight was standing inconspicuously with an Orange Leaf apron on.  At first, it looked like he had no arms.  As I got closer, I saw his hands were underneath the apron.  So inappropriate Jacob.  This is a family place.

It was a good weekend though.  I watched a bunch of random Olympic events too, so I can’t complain.  Lazy weekends are nice sometimes.  I haven’t had a restful weekend in awhile.

Ted. Friends. Magic Mike.

I can’t believe it’s already July… This weekend was a pretty busy one, but it’s my own fault I didn’t really get anything productive done.  I did do a 1 mile treadmill workout, followed by a 4 mile bicycling, and then strength training.  I need to be more strict with my workouts.

Friday: The BF and I went to see the movie Ted.  It was pretty funny, Seth McFarlane is a very talented writer.  Ted looked pretty cuddly, I want one of him.here

Saturday: I got to spend some time with three of my best friends from Nursing school.  We went to eat at Santa Fe, and then did a little shopping before the town shut down.

Sunday: Kaylee and I went to see the move “Magic Mike.”  We obviously didn’t see it for the captivating storyline.
here

I would’ve like to see more of this man in the movie.  Quick!  There’s a fire in my pants! (**I’m not always this pervy.)

I also got to visit my family for a tiny bit this weekend.  My niece Cora is growing so much and she will be a big sister in the next couple of weeks!

Look how much she loves her string cheese, just like her Aunt Brandi.  She’s a string cheese runner training in the early years.

I’m excited for the Fourth of July.  I don’t usually get to watch fireworks because I’m working, but my coworker switched me a day so now I get to watch them with the BF this year.   Sweet success.

** This is a lie. I am.

Color Run – Tulsa, OK

This past weekend, my friend Jessica and I went to Tulsa to participate in the Color Run.  We met a group of Jessica’s friends and ran with them. The Color Run is a 5k, and at each kilometer they pour cornstarch dye on you.  There were approximately 10,000 people at this event, with people dressed in all sorts of costumes, and in the required white top dress code.

This race was not timed, it is considered a “fun run.”  Which it was fun in it’s way, but I have figured out I’m not much of a fun run person because fun runs have a lot of people, and I don’t really like a lot of people.  It’s overwhelming.

There was a lot of walking involved, mainly because there were heaps of people restricting actual running with their slow trot.  During a fun run, since it’s supposed to be fun, people walk and chat.  I think I’m probably too competitive for fun runs .  Even though I’m not a fast person, I’m competitive against myself, and walking a lot during a “run” makes me feel weird.  I don’t like it.

The view in front of us as we were waiting to start, which this is about as many people behind us too:

The “Fruit Loops” before the race all sparkling clean:

Me and Jes before the race (Yes, I am wearing mustache socks):

The group of girls we were with afterward:

Jes and I afterward, the shadow makes me look like I have a PopEye smile going on:

The whole group:

We also had to have a jumping picture, I’m not very good at it. Obviously.

During all the picture taking, I got REALLY good at photo bombing my friend’s pictures.  These were taken off Jessica’s facebook:

And my favorite…

At the end of the run, everyone gathered around the stage with their color packets and threw them up in the air.  It was very pretty and colorful.

The Color Run was fun, but I don’t think I’ll be participating in any more runs like it.  It’s not particularly my cup of tea, but that’s just my own competitive issue.  I also had a problem with the lack of water and the way it was set up.  You’d think with the massive amount of people and all the money that everyone paid, that the water would’ve been set up a lot better instead of a huge hot jug with 829393 people in line to get a 4 oz cup of it in the heat.  <— Yes, it’s a really long run-on sentence.  That’s my only real complaint about the race itself (plus the billion people, but that can’t be helped…well I guess it could too…)

Mother’s Day

News flash:  My motivation to run has been lacking.  I don’t know if it’s because my back still sucks or something else within me is just lazy?  I’ve gotta get it into gear soon, although it’s going to be hard with the hot and humid summer coming up.  Time to put on my big girl panties and suck it up.

This Sunday was Mother’s Day, so I went home to see my sweet Mama.

(This was me and my mom at my SIL’s baby shower last year when I thought I would look good with dark hair, and nobody told me otherwise. Thanks friends.)

I love my mother so much.  Sometimes it gets really hard to live so far away from her, my immediate family, and friends.  I don’t see myself moving back, but there are some days where I really miss them.

My relationship with my mom has changed, for the better I think, in the past couple of years.  The death of my Dad, put a huge stress on my family, but it brought us so much closer.  Throughout the unbelievable grief and hardship it changed perspective on life, at least for me it did.

Although I know my mom doesn’t read this blog, and won’t ever, (she doesn’t really even know how to work a cell phone, so I’m not being unrealistic.)
Thanks for all you’ve done, you have a big heart and have impacted how I live my life and treat others.
Happy Mother’s Day.

———

When I visit my mother, Dexter obviously comes with me.  He gets so excited to see his Grandma and his cousin Cosby (my mother’s dog.)

They look guilty.  I’m sure they just tore something up or peed on something they shouldn’t have.

The boys play so much and get along great that when I come home from just  visiting for a day, Dexter does this for at least a couple of days:
I should probably get another dog so he can have a sibling to play with, but it’s such a commitment to get another one.  I would adopt of course, but every time I look at Petfinder, I feel incredibly sad and I want to adopt every single dog in the world.  Maybe someday I’ll brave it and adopt another dog.

Weekend. Norman Music Festival.

This weekend I went to my hometown for one of my best friend’s baby’s birthday party.  He just turned one and is getting so big.  It was good to see my friends because it’s so rare that we are all off on the same day to get together.

We met in nursing school and have stayed good friends afterward, even though our lives have taken us different places.  We try to get a picture together every time we are able to and we definitely got one this time.

I’m not even a fan of this picture of myself because it looks like I’m 4 months pregnant and am standing like I have to pee.  I do enjoy it because of the quick amount of time we had to take it in.
Photo: Ashley, Brock, Mandy, Me, and Melissa

It looks like a pretty normal picture of a group of friends, right?  If you haven’t noticed, take a look to the far left of the tiny legs in midair with no body.  That’s Ashley’s son Brayden.  He was throwing a fit because he didn’t want to go home and since I was insistent on a picture together before she left, she just stuffed him behind her back as he was yelling.  Good times. 🙂
————

I came back home and went to the Norman Music Festival with T.  It was pretty crowded, but we had a good time.  We saw The Damn Quails, Other Lives, and Portugal. The Man play.  PTM was definitely my favorite, but the others were great too.  I love listening to live music, it soothes my soul.

This is another picture I’m not crazy about, and I’m sure T will kill me for putting it on here, but I have a reasoning for posting it.

Yes we look scraggly and sweaty, but it was humid and we were shoved in the middle of a billion people.

Also, if you didn’t notice…
I like a good photo bomb, and for some reason this guy’s face just cracks me up.  I may be easily amused, but there it is.

Oh and one last thing I cannot forget!

 YESSSSSSSS.
